Description of Product

The Abbey Road Fuzz began with a simple idea. Keep everything people love about the classic two transistor germanium fuzz, then quietly improve the areas that matter to players.

This one has been hand wired on traditional tagboard using a carefully selected pair of NKT1893 germanium transistors. Alongside the transistors are vintage blue moulded capacitors of the same style used throughout many Fender and Magnatone amplifiers during the nineteen sixties, chosen not simply for authenticity but because they suit the character of the circuit beautifully. The result is a pedal with more available output than a traditional Fuzz Face style design while offering a much wider clean up range from your guitar’s volume control.

One of the biggest differences is the addition of a three position EQ switch. Rather than locking the pedal into one voice, it allows the circuit to work naturally with both single coils and humbuckers. The first position leans towards classic treble booster territory with added clarity and bite. The second introduces a fuller midrange that suits seventies rock tones beautifully. The third position delivers the broader, fuller response associated with a traditional Fuzz Face style circuit.

The enclosure has been finished in aged gold over blue using nitrocellulose lacquer, allowing the lower colour to emerge naturally through the ageing process. The finger gun artwork gives this build its own personality while remaining unmistakably Hello Sailor. Like every Hello Sailor Effects pedal, this is a completely individual build. No production line, no printed circuit board, and no second example will ever look exactly the same.

Description of Sound

The Abbey Road Fuzz is designed to become part of the guitar rather than simply another effect in the signal chain.

With the guitar wide open it delivers the warm, expressive character that has made germanium fuzzes so enduring, with enough output to push the front end of an amplifier without losing clarity. Roll the guitar’s volume control back and the sound cleans up progressively, revealing bright, articulate tones that remain musical rather than becoming thin.

The three position EQ switch changes the character in genuinely useful ways. The brighter setting moves into classic treble booster territory with extra attack and definition. The centre position introduces a fuller midrange that works naturally for classic rock rhythm and lead playing. The final setting opens the circuit into the broad, rounded voice associated with a traditional vintage germanium fuzz.

Whether used into a clean amplifier or one already beginning to break up, the pedal responds to picking dynamics and guitar controls in a way that encourages playing rather than adjustment.
