Description of Product
The Abbey Road Fuzz began with a simple idea. Keep everything people love about the classic two transistor fuzz, then quietly improve the areas that matter to players.
This one has been hand wired on traditional tagboard using a pair of NOS 2N3904 silicon transistors together with a rare military specification NKT gold pin transistor, carefully selected for stability, clarity and musical response. The circuit has been developed to provide more available output than a traditional Fuzz Face style design, while also offering a much wider clean up range from your guitar’s volume control.
One of the biggest differences is the addition of a three position EQ switch. Rather than locking the pedal into one voice, it allows the circuit to work naturally with both single coils and humbuckers. The first position leans towards classic treble booster territory with added clarity and bite. The second introduces a fuller midrange that suits seventies rock tones beautifully. The third position delivers the broader, fuller response associated with a traditional Fuzz Face style circuit.
The enclosure has been finished in metallic blue over fluorescent green, allowing the brighter colour to emerge naturally through the ageing process. The artwork features the unmistakable shark attack scene with the words “We’re Gonna Need A Bigger Boat”, giving the pedal a character that is every bit as individual as the circuit inside. Like every Hello Sailor Effects pedal, this is a completely individual build. No production line, no printed circuit board, and no second example that will ever look exactly the same.
Description of Sound
The Abbey Road Fuzz is designed to become part of the guitar rather than simply another effect in the signal chain.
With the guitar wide open it produces a powerful silicon fuzz with plenty of output to push the front end of an amplifier. Roll the guitar’s volume control back and the sound cleans up progressively, revealing bright, articulate tones without becoming thin or lifeless.
The three position EQ switch changes the character in genuinely useful ways. The brighter setting adds the focused attack associated with classic treble boosters. The centre position introduces extra midrange presence for singing lead work and classic rock rhythm tones. The final setting allows the circuit to breathe with the fuller voice expected from a classic vintage inspired fuzz.
Whether plugged into a clean British amplifier or something already beginning to break up, the pedal remains responsive to picking dynamics and guitar controls, encouraging you to shape the sound from the instrument rather than relying solely on the pedal.
