Description of Product

The Abbey Road Fuzz began with a simple idea. Keep everything people love about the classic two transistor germanium fuzz, then quietly improve the areas that matter to players.

This one has been hand wired on traditional tagboard inside a large vintage style fuzz enclosure. At its heart is a carefully matched pair of NOS military specification CV7087 NKT germanium transistors, selected for their musical response, smooth clean up and balanced gain. Originally manufactured for military applications, these transistors have become increasingly difficult to source and remain some of the most desirable British germanium devices available.

The circuit also uses a genuine vintage Mullard mustard capacitor as the input capacitor, a component synonymous with many of Britain’s finest valve amplifiers. At the output sits a genuine vintage blue moulded capacitor of the same style found throughout many Fender and Magnatone amplifiers during the nineteen sixties. These components were chosen because they complement the character of the circuit and reflect the philosophy behind every Hello Sailor build, selecting parts because they belong there rather than because they are fashionable.

The circuit has been developed to provide more available output than a traditional Fuzz Face style design while offering a much wider clean up range from your guitar’s volume control.

The circuit works naturally with both single coils and humbuckers and delivers a broader, fuller response associated with a traditional Fuzz Face style circuit.

The enclosure has been finished in aged Inca silver using nitrocellulose lacquer before being carefully reliced by hand. The anchor artwork reflects the Hello Sailor heritage while giving this pedal its own unmistakable identity. Like every Hello Sailor Effects build, this is an entirely individual pedal. No production line, no printed circuit board, and no second example will ever look exactly the same.

Description of Sound

The Abbey Road Fuzz captures the warmth, bloom and responsiveness that make great germanium circuits so rewarding to play.

With the guitar wide open it delivers a rich, harmonically complex fuzz with enough output to push the front end of an amplifier naturally. Roll the guitar’s volume control back and the circuit cleans up progressively into bright, expressive tones that remain full and musical throughout the sweep of the control.

The result is a pedal that responds naturally to picking dynamics, amplifier settings and guitar controls, encouraging the player to shape the sound from the instrument rather than relying on additional pedals.

This is a one off build, hand wired on tagboard and individually finished in aged Inca silver nitrocellulose lacquer with anchor artwork. It features NOS military specification CV7087 NKT germanium transistors, a vintage Mullard mustard input capacitor and a genuine vintage blue moulded output capacitor of the same style used in classic Fender and Magnatone amplifiers. It will never be repeated in exactly the same form. If it speaks to you, it is available.
