Description of Product
This Rangemaster treble booster is built inside a vintage enclosure fitted with real Brazilian rosewood veneer plates.
The wood panels change the feel of the pedal immediately. Rosewood has a natural depth and grain pattern that cannot be replicated with modern laminates. The surface has been finished lightly so the wood remains tactile rather than glossy.
Inside the enclosure the circuit follows the traditional Rangemaster architecture, hand wired on tagboard using period correct construction methods. The layout remains visible and serviceable in the same way early amplifier circuits were built.
The signal path uses blue moulded capacitors of the type commonly found in 1960s blackface Fender and Magnatone amplifiers. These parts are known for their stability and smooth high frequency behaviour.
A large British made RS Components 1.5Kv capacitor sits within the input network alongside a substantial NOS Orange Drop capacitor used within the tone shaping section. These parts were chosen for both reliability and the way they behave under signal.
The transistor is a NOS Soviet BART germanium device. These parts have a very distinctive gain structure and require individual testing before installation.
Control is provided by a six position rotary EQ selector. This allows the classic treble booster voice to move across several frequency ranges rather than remaining locked to the traditional upper mid emphasis.
A vintage NOS CTS potentiometer handles the output control. These pots were widely used in American amplifiers and instruments and are known for their smooth mechanical feel and consistent taper.
Every connection inside the pedal is hand soldered and the entire circuit is built slowly with the intention that it can be serviced and understood many years from now.
This particular combination of components and materials exists as a single build.
Description of Sound
The Rangemaster circuit was originally designed to push the front end of valve amplifiers harder while shaping the upper midrange of the guitar signal.
With the EQ selector set to the traditional treble position the pedal produces the familiar bright push that tightens the low end and brings single notes forward in a mix. This setting works especially well into already driven amplifiers where the boost interacts with the first gain stage of the amp.
Moving through the six EQ positions gradually shifts the emphasis lower through the frequency range. The result moves from the classic treble boost into a wider midrange push and eventually into a thicker full range boost.
The BART germanium transistor gives the pedal a slightly softer attack than silicon boosters. Notes feel rounded rather than sharp and the circuit responds closely to the guitar volume control.
Rolling the guitar volume back cleans the signal while retaining the harmonic colour the circuit introduces. Pushing the amplifier harder brings out the singing sustain that made this circuit so widely used during the late sixties and early seventies.
It is a simple circuit that interacts strongly with the amplifier it is placed in front of.
Real World Testimonials

Reverb feedback
“A genius bit of design.”
AM Guitar review
“A treble booster with a lot to offer all guitarists.”
Medium review
This pedal is a single build.
The vintage enclosure, rosewood panels, and the particular combination of components used here will not be repeated in exactly the same way again.
