Abbey Road Fuzz
Aged Sonic Blue, Compass Edition

A one off Abbey Road Fuzz built around a matched pair of Mullard military spec CV7112 germanium transistors and wired entirely by hand on tagboard.

This particular build uses CV7112 devices in both Q1 and Q2 which gives the circuit a softer, more elastic response than a lot of harsher modern germanium fuzzes. There is still plenty of gain available, but the whole thing leans more towards feel and interaction rather than brute force saturation.

The attack has that slightly compressed bloom old British recordings are full of, while still keeping enough clarity underneath the notes to stop chords collapsing into mush.

The enclosure is finished in aged Sonic Blue nitrocellulose lacquer with nautical compass artwork buried beneath the clear coat. The finish was deliberately aged back slightly to give it the feel of something that could have lived in the back of a van since the late 60s rather than something fresh off a production line. Inside, every part was chosen because of how it behaves under the fingers rather than because it looks correct in photographs.

This is not one of those vintage style fuzzes that only really works at one setting with one guitar. It was tuned to behave properly in real world use. Lower output single coils still retain body and sustain, while hotter humbuckers push the circuit harder without turning the low end to soup. Roll the guitar volume back and it cleans up naturally into that glassier almost overdriven texture that sits underneath so many old records.

The whole point of this circuit was interaction.
A lot of vintage fuzzes sound impressive until you actually try controlling them from the guitar itself. This one was built specifically to avoid that. Pick lightly and it softens off. Dig in and the circuit pushes back against you in a way that feels mechanical rather than processed. It reacts more like part of the amplifier than a pedal sitting in front of it.

Real World Testimonials

“One of the best fuzz pedals I have ever played. Proper old school clean up from the guitar volume and just feels alive under the fingers.”
Reverb feedback

“The way these react to picking dynamics is ridiculous. You stop playing the pedal and start playing the guitar again.”
Instagram comment

“Excellent build quality and probably the most usable vintage style fuzz I own.”
Reverb feedback

This is a one off build and will not be repeated exactly in this form.
