Description of Product

A lot of fuzz pedals sound fantastic with your guitar wide open. The difficulty comes when you want something different. Perhaps less low end, a little more bite, or a sound that cleans up properly when you roll the guitar volume back.

That is exactly what I wanted to address with the Abbey Road Fuzz.

This particular version has a six position EQ selector, allowing you to change the frequency emphasis of the circuit rather than being stuck with one fixed fuzz sound.

At one end you have something approaching a traditional treble booster, with a little fuzz sitting on top. Move through the selector and the sound becomes progressively fuller, moving towards the thick, saturated character associated with the late sixties.

But the important bit is what happens when you use your guitar volume control.

Even with humbuckers, rolling the volume back takes the circuit towards a much cleaner driven sound. Turn it back up and the fuzz returns.

That gives you a surprising amount of control without having to reach down and adjust the pedal every time you want something different.

Why the enormous enclosure?

Well, it certainly isn’t full of fresh air.

I’ve used the additional space for traditional hand wired tagboard construction, large format components and oversized potentiometers.

The circuit is built around gold pin 2N4964 silicon transistors. These give the fuzz a firm attack and a consistent response, while the circuit has been tuned to retain the guitar volume clean up I look for in a good fuzz.

Everything is assembled by hand, with the components and wiring accessible rather than hidden away on a densely populated circuit board.

The enclosure is finished in rose gold over a pink nitrocellulose lacquer base, giving the metallic finish a warmer appearance and subtle depth under changing light.

The pinup artwork completes the pedal. It’s unmistakably Hello Sailor, and there won’t be another one finished exactly like this.

Description of Sound

Treble booster bite, classic rock drive and full saturated fuzz.

The six position EQ selector is what makes this particular Abbey Road so useful.

At the brighter end of the selector, the lower frequencies are reduced and the sound becomes tighter and more cutting. Into an amplifier already beginning to break up, it can behave much like a treble booster with a little extra fuzz.

As you move through the positions, more body enters the sound. The response becomes thicker, with greater low frequency content and a fuller fuzz character.

At the heavier end, there is plenty of saturation available for the broad, sustained fuzz sounds associated with classic recordings.

The other half of the equation is your guitar.

With single coils, the brighter settings give you plenty of attack and definition. Humbuckers can push the circuit harder, but the EQ selector gives you room to adjust the low end rather than letting it become overpowering.

And regardless of which guitar you’re using, rolling back the volume cleans up the sound considerably.

For me, that is what makes a fuzz genuinely useful. Not simply how much distortion it can produce, but how much you can do with it once it’s switched on.

This Particular Build

This is one individual Abbey Road Fuzz, hand wired on tagboard and finished in rose gold over pink nitrocellulose lacquer.

It features gold pin 2N4964 silicon transistors, oversized potentiometers, a six position EQ selector and original Hello Sailor pinup artwork.

I’ll build more Abbey Road Fuzz pedals.

I won’t build another exactly like this one.

Only one available.

November offer: £224 instead of £280 with code HSE20.

Offer ends 30 November 2026.

If this is the combination of sound, construction and finish you’ve been looking for, it’s available.
