Description of Product
This pedal brings together three circuits that sit at the centre of Hello Sailor Effects.
The signal path begins with the Abbey Road Fuzz, followed by the Rangemaster and then the Kossoff Drive.
Each circuit has its own controls, indicator, footswitch and true bypass effects loop. The three sections can be used independently, combined with one another, or connected to three separate groups of external pedals.
The Abbey Road Fuzz is a low gain silicon version of the circuit. The Rangemaster uses a Texas Instruments BC213C silicon transistor with vintage Mullard Tropical Fish capacitors. The Kossoff Drive includes a Lemco silver mica capacitor, a Mullard Tropical Fish capacitor and a vintage Dubilier capacitor.
All three circuits have been built and wired by hand inside one enclosure.
The unusual part is what happens after each circuit.
Every section has its own send and return sockets on the back of the enclosure. A toggle switch places that effects loop directly after its associated circuit.
This means the Abbey Road Fuzz footswitch can control the fuzz and an external chain connected to its loop. The Rangemaster footswitch can do the same with a completely different group of pedals. The Kossoff Drive has its own independent loop as well.
A loop could contain one pedal or several. When that section is switched on, the main circuit and everything connected to its loop can be brought into the signal path together.
The result is effectively three independently controlled signal chains rather than simply three pedals sharing one enclosure.
The pedal is finished in shell pink with brown cupcake knobs and my pin up rock chick Alice artwork. The finish has been aged by hand, so the edges and surface already carry some of the character of an older piece of equipment.
This is the only one of these triple pedals with independent effects loops that I have left.
Description of Sound
The Abbey Road Fuzz comes first in the signal path.
This is a lower gain silicon version with a firmer attack than a typical germanium fuzz. With the guitar opened up it produces a clear, defined fuzz that retains the shape of the note. Pull the guitar volume back and the circuit moves into lighter driven sounds rather than simply becoming quieter.
The Rangemaster follows the fuzz.
On its own it gives the guitar a more focused response and pushes the frequencies that help it hold its place against a band. It can also be used to drive the Kossoff section harder or to change the way other pedals connected to its loop respond.
The Kossoff Drive is the final circuit.
This is the flagship Hello Sailor Effects overdrive. It was developed around the relationship between picking attack, guitar volume and the amount of signal entering the circuit.
Pick lightly and it settles down. Dig in and the sound becomes rougher and more aggressive.
This is how I normally use mine. I set the Kossoff Drive for the full gain sound with the guitar opened up, then use the guitar volume and my hands to work backwards through rhythm and cleaner sounds.
The guitar volume does more than reduce loudness. It changes how hard the circuit is being driven and therefore changes the character of the gain.
The three independent loops add another layer without dictating what the rest of the signal chain must contain.
A modulation pedal could appear only with the fuzz. Several boosts could be brought in with the Rangemaster. Delay or another drive could be assigned to the Kossoff section.
Each footswitch can therefore recall a much larger combination than the circuit inside the enclosure.
You can still ignore the loops completely and use the pedal as an Abbey Road Fuzz, Rangemaster and Kossoff Drive. The additional routing is there when a more involved switching arrangement is useful.

“The addition of Rangemaster makes this pedal a lot more versatile and gives you far greater control over the shaping of that core drive’s output.”

Call to Action
This is a one off, hand wired combination of the Abbey Road Fuzz, Rangemaster and Kossoff Drive.
Each circuit has its own independently switchable true bypass effects loop, allowing the enclosure to control three separate signal chains.
It is finished in shell pink with brown cupcake knobs and Alice artwork.
This exact build will not be repeated.
If it speaks to you, it is available.
